Tempo published my op-ed this morning about the rising Islamist conservatism ahead of the election year. Despite being weakened by numerous regime's oppressive policies, the Islamist movement remains salient in current Indonesian politics. It is no surprise at all if, sooner or later, we see the presidential hopefuls begin flirting, approaching these groups.
